Villages of Hidden Lake in Pflugerville TX

By: Curtis Reddehase

I think the biggest and one of the best things about the Villages of Hidden Lake is Lake Pflugerville. While the builders are still building quality homes, the city of Pflugerville continues to improve this man made lake. Over the next few years, the city has a master plan of adding 16 more miles of easement to the lake, more shoreline, more parks with solar powered picnic tables, a beach area, and fishing pier, restrooms, a pavilion, boat launch/ramp and more. This area attracts many activities such as the KIDfish where kids come to an annual tournament to catch a few of the over 60,000 fish such as crappie, bass, sunfish and catfish. The fish were funded by the Texas Parks and Wildlife. There has even been a triathlon with over 300 participants. The Villages of Hidden Lake are nestled to the east of the city but easily accessible to the new toll roads. Since this community's Inception, many new shopping areas have come to settle nearby. They have added a Home Depot, Target Superstore (in the works), Ross Dress for Less is on the way and many more anchors will grace that area. A recently built Walmart is close by also. In addition to the latest shopping centers this community has seen the High School and Middle School grow at unprecedented rates. They are very conveniently located to the neighborhood. Most everything you need is within minutes of the Villages. More importantly than the convenience is the feeling that your miles away in a serene setting with awesome amenities. Many of the homeowners are next to the lake or have great views of the 180 acre lake. Many families walk the trail around the lake. It is approximately a 3 mile granite pathway. Originally built as a water source in 2006, the city will expand by adding and installing water lines, a new pump station at the Colorado River, plus a water treatment facility will be installed to establish more of the lake. The city of Pflugerville is able to do these improvements through multiple grants, contributions and their budgeting expertise. Escrow funds have been generated by the developers who want to pay to preserve the land. While the lake is multi-functional for residents of Pflugerville’s water supply, recreation and it is also really good for the economic development aspect. The Villages of Hidden Lake has been around for about 5 years and the lake was put in 2006. The future of this lake is that it should be able to provide water until 2040. The lake produces 15 million gallons of water daily but will be more stable in it's productivity to generate more as demand increases. Prior to the lake being built, Pflugerville got its water from the Edward Aquifer that is historically known for going up and down during inclement weather, so a new plan had to be devised for the residents and the growth that is to incur in the coming years. Pflugerville has become a thriving city due to the innovations of its city leaders. In addition to the lake and many other newly developed communities, they are Working on their economic development strategies to generate businesses and shopping areas. As I mentioned above about the new larger stores already committed, There is talk of a Costco, Macaroni Grill and other chain stores familiar with the surrounding cities but new to Pflugerville. Noted recently, a new development is clearing land for more spaces for retail Development... close to FM 685 and Pfennig Lane. If you like small town atmospheres with aggressive leaders who don't want to ruin the atmosphere but only want to enhance the resident’s options, then Pflugerville should fit your needs great. If you like the Villages of Hidden Lake, Lake Pflugerville, you may also be attracted to The Fairways Of Blackhawk or Avalon located off Kelly Lane.
